Why a levy?

Stryker Local Schools operating revenue comes from several sources: Income tax, Property tax, State tax, and some Federal Aid. The struggling economy has forced the School to take a hard look at the programming it provides to the children of our district. The only way to MAINTAIN current programs is to pass a levy in November. This decision is the result of cuts made in Columbus and directly affects the operating costs of the district. No one wants to pay more taxes! Yet, we have the opportunity to let the children of the district know, that we can put aside differences and come together and ensure that the quality of their education in Stryker will continue. We will acknowledge that that quality has changed over the years because of economic hard times. There are other issues that have caused division in our community that are not resolved at this time (the administration will gladly answer questions you may have. Other questions concerning the gate issue can be directed to the Stryker Town Council.), which is unfortunate. However, Stryker Local Schools is a vital part of our community and no one wants to see it disappear. If the levy doesn't pass, cuts will be made. What does that mean for the future children of the district? One person who attended a Citizens for Stryker Schools meeting shared that his hometown consolidated school districts. The staff of Stryker Schools cares for the child in the classroom and their family. That happens because we are a community and we care for our own!
