Government 101

Voting is a privilege in our country. Everyone's vote counts. I know, some will say "does it really matter?" While "the majority wins" is comforting if you are in the majority, if you are in the minority the mentality is "then I lose". If you want to be the majority, you have to make sure that your voice is heard. You "speak" by voting. The majority is determined when the votes are counted.

Now, if the outcome isn't what you desire, then you have something to work for to make a change.

Let's put that in "everyday" context: Our family is driving to another town to eat out--an event that doesn't happen often, but bear with me--and we ask where everyone wants to eat. Because we have quite a few kids, there can be varied answers. So, we take a vote (sometimes we don't vote...but there is a point). Well, everyone decides Wendy's, but daughter in the back seat wants Taco Bell. Does that mean she loses? It won't mean she will go hungry, because guaranteed she will find something to eat and it will still be good. Next time we go out to eat, guaranteed, she will start planting "Taco Bell" seeds in the minds of her siblings. Bottom line...we got to go out to eat and there could be a next time!

The sooner this process is started, the sooner your voice is heard. In order for your absentee vote to be counted, it must be received by the Board of Elections by 6 p.m. on March 2 (they will not make exceptions). Why wait??
